Petrol bomb attack injures one in Princess – road still closed

Albertina Sisulu Road closed until further notice

Albertina Sisulu Road bordering Princess informal settlement will remain closed until further notice.

This is because the trucks that were torched last week have not been removed. Staff from a towing company tasked with towing away the trucks were attacked by angry residents and petrol bombs were thrown. One of the staff members was hit on the back and had to be rushed to hospital.

The towing company had to abandon its operations and flee to safety.

There were sporadic incidents of violence over the weekend but nothing escalated. Princess High School was reopened today (22 May) after its staff members were threatened by protesters on Friday. Police have been posted at the school as a safety precaution.

JMPD vehicles have been stationed to block vehicles from travelling along that particular stretch of Albertina Sisulu Road and motorists have been advised to seek alternative travel routes.
