Princess protest action spreading

Princess protesters have taken to the streets – again

Princess High School learners had to be sent home early today (18 May) after protesters from the informal settlement started targeting residential homes near the school.

Although riot police and various other police officers are currently on scene, this has not stopped residents from taking to the streets. Some protesters allegedly have also moved to South Road, which has been partially closed for safety reasons.

Protesters have been threatening all day to torch trucks, vehicles and residential homes if their demands are not met. The protest action started last night due to lack of progress in allocating the housing units. Protesters are demanding that Housing MEC Paul Mashatile and Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba address them.

Motorists are strongly urged to avoid these roads and take alternative routes.
