Honeydew police detectives rewarded for hard work
HONEYDEW – Top-performing Honeydew police detectives honoured with certificates.
From being labelled ‘the useless Honeydew Police Station’ to becoming one of the best-performing stations in Gauteng, the station celebrated its four-star rating on 12 May by honouring its hard-working detectives.
More than 15 officers were awarded certificates of merit for perseverance in their respective lines of duty at a prize-giving ceremony held at the authentic Mo-Zam-Bik restaurant on Beyers Naudé Drive.
Colonel Wilson Seshoka, the commander of the detective branch, recalled some of the depressing and shameful moments that the station experienced in recent years.
“I came to Honeydew Police Station when things were tough. The performance level was too low. But I’m happy today that we received the fourth star after receiving the third one two months ago,” he said.
A visibly proud Seshoka, commending his team for boosting the station’s reputation added, “For years we were a ‘useless’ police station, but today when the province looks at us, they are impressed.
I will never forget this team for the road we’ve travelled. We are here to rejoice and to show appreciation to our members that did well.”
The Station Commander, Brigadier Anesh Maharaj, said he wanted to see other departments such as Visible Policing (Vispol) being honoured as well. He also thanked the Community Police Forum for its efforts in improving policing at the station.
Jon Rosenberg, the CPF spokesperson, who awarded the Goodwill Shield to Detective Sergeant Letsie Molapo for successfully convicting notorious suspects in the precinct, thanked the restaurant for their service and for giving to the community.
The restaurant hosted a free three-course meal to all members, which was in appreciation for the hard work that the police never get recognised for by the community.
A happy Molapo dedicated his awards to his team of 2012, consisting of the late Constable Laurence Mutelo and the now promoted Captain Itumeleng Phakedi.
“We spent sleepless nights with these men when Cosmo City was under siege. We worked tirelessly to convict all the suspects,” said Molapo.
