National Fruit Cocktail Day

Enjoy your favourite fruit juice on #NationalFruitCocktailDay

13 May is National Fruit Cocktail Day, the perfect day to relive some of our favourite memories regarding this beverage.

Fruit cocktail consists of various kinds of fruits served in a liquid of its juices or syrups, and is often sold canned. However, it can also be freshly made.

The word ‘cocktail’ in the name does not necessarily refer to alcohol. According to its secondary definition, a cocktail is an appetiser made by combining pieces of food, such as fruit or seafood.

Two people have been credited with the invention of the fruit cocktail – William Vere Cruess of the University of California and Herbert Gray of the Baron-Gray Packing Company in San José, California.

To celebrate today, enjoy your favourite fruit cocktail. You can either buy some from the store, or try your hand at making your own.
