Matholesville riots to resume later today

The past week was marred by violent protests in Zenzele, Ennerdale, Eldorado Park and Florida, among other places in the country.

The service-delivery protest at Matholesville has toned down but residents have vowed to rally again later today.

Meanwhile Main Reef Road, which was blocked with debris this morning (12 May), has been opened.

Earlier angry residents of Matholesville and surrounding areas took to the streets and caused traffic to come to a standstill. Teargas and rubber bullets were fired to disperse the angry crowds that were throwing rocks at police and vehicles.

Motorists, however, are still urged to avoid the road despite a heavy police presence.
