Florida residents invited to public meeting

Feedback will be given on land invasion issue

The councillors for Wards 70 and 84, Caleb Finn and Gert Niemand will be holding a public meeting with residents affected by the Roodepoort Rugby Club land invasion.

The land was invaded during the past weekend, and the situation escalated yesterday (9 May) when the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department as well as the Department of Housing employees attempted to evict the illegal occupants. The situation turned violent when the occupants closed off a section of Main Reef Road and started burning tyres, damaging traffic lights and throwing rocks.

The meeting will take place this evening (10 May) at the Florida Lake Dragon Boat Club, Eisteddfod Road, Florida from 6pm. “We know that homeowners and residents of Florida Lake, Hamberg and Cresswell Park are very concerned and frustrated with the current situation, that is why we want to invite them to attend this meeting,” said Caleb.

The purpose of the meeting is to give residents an outline of what exactly happened, as well as what the plan is going forward.
