Honeydew Police Station has a new commander

HONEYDEW – New commander at Honeydew Police Station aims to partner with role players in the fight against crime.

Former Johannesburg West Cluster, visible policing (Vispol) coordinator, Brigadier Anesh Maharaj (47) has joined the Honeydew Police Station as its new station commander.

Maharaj who has acted on the current position at Diepsloot and Roodepoort police stations vowed to implement campaigns and high police presence in crime affected areas in the Honeydew precinct.

Maharaj, along with Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, kicked-started the week with crime awareness briefs at Cosmo City FM, where they appealed to community members to report crimes and not to take matters into their own hands.

Newly appointed Honeydew Police Station commander Brigadier Anesh Maharaj and spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan talk issues of crime on Cosmo City FM.

Cosmo City has lately been affected by a string of violent house robberies and burglaries which have led to the death of a tenant in Ext 6.

While live on air, between 9am and 12pm on 8 May, Maharaj encouraged whistle blowing and guaranteed safety to those who opt to share information with the police.

“While blowers are guaranteed safety, information from them is treated with strict confidentiality. Whistle blowers are not even called to testify in court,” Maharaj said.

He added that he also favoured partnerships between the police and community structures such as engaging community policing forums in the fight against crime. He also highlighted the establishment of community mobilisation.

“I would like to establish neighbourhood watches and initiate more joint operations with law enforcement agencies such as security companies, the police, Gauteng traffic and national traffic,” Maharaj explained.

The brigadier has been in the police fraternity for 16 years and has filled various positions at a score of police stations around Johannesburg.

He has worked as the head of human resources management in the North Rand office and support services head commander at the Randburg Police Station. He also acted as a treasury commander at the Midrand Police Station and tackled the Vispol commander position at Douglasdale Police Station.
