Update: Man who was ejected from vehicle identified

One arrested on accident scene.

The man who was ejected from his red Ford Fiesta and dragged underneath a second vehicle during an accident this past Friday (5 May), has been identified as 69-year-old Albino Caldeira.

Caldeira is an employee at Lisbon Café in Witpoortjie. According to one of his employers he is still in a critical condition in Netcare Milpark Hospital. He had to be airlifted to the hospital after the collision.

The accident happened when the driver of another vehicle allegedly tried to flee from a roadblock. He allegedly skipped a red traffic light at the intersection of Corlett Avenue and Ontdekkers Road and crashed into Caldeira’s Fiesta. According to an eyewitness the vehicle of the driver at fault was allegedly littered with liquor bottles. “There were liquor bottles as well as wine glasses in the vehicle,” said the eyewitness who narrowly escaped being in the accident himself.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle was arrested on scene.
