Bull rides, soccer, pancakes all at Welties fête

WELTEVREDEN PARK – The best in the West as Welties enjoys yet another successful annual fête.

Fun was had by all at the Weltevreden Park Primary School fête.

The much-loved fête was held at Welties on 6 May with the blessing of great weather and good company. As always, it was jam-packed with stalls selling a multitude of items such as jewellery, plants, interesting recycled lamps, clothes and crafts.

Nandile Madi runs around happily with a very heavy police bulletproof vest.

Children had loads of fun activities like jumping castles, sand art, and even a mechanical bull.

The Honeydew Community Police Forum and the Honeydew police made their presence known. Children were delighted to run around wearing a real bulletproof vest and many were shocked at how heavy it really is. A display of police weapons such as guns, stun grenades and handcuffs were safely displayed for all to marvel at.

Peter and Anne Matthews are proud grandparents and loved the little stalls.

The food and drink stands did not disappoint, with yummy pancakes and coffee. The annual fête is used as one of the biggest fundraising events for the primary school – although it is not just a fundraiser but also plays host to a large netball and soccer tournament.

Netball games were very competitive but fun at the Welties fête .

Primary schools such as Cliffview, Charter House, Ridge Vale Constantia and Panorama were invited to play each other to decide who gets awarded the winning trophies.

The overall winner was again Weltevreden in both netball and soccer but a close competitor was Constantia in netball and Charter House in soccer.

Welties principal James van Dijk said, “Thank you to everyone who helped to make this day possible – especially the Welties PFA and all the sponsors. To everyone who came out to support the school and the brilliant talent shown, not only from Welties but all the schools that participated, a big thank you to all of you.”
