Food Drive received a boost
The Record's Food Drive was launched about three weeks ago.
The Record’s Food Drive received a huge boost from the Johannesburg Care Foundation (JCF).
Llewellyn Ryan, founder of JCF, Sabelo Ngani and Nondyebo Cindi arrived at the Record’s offices with boxes of Oat Pops, Weetbix, Bokomo Rusks and Otees.
JCF is a non-profit organisation in Florida. Their aim is to assist children and the elderly in the area by collection and donating goods to needy people.
Ryan said some of their big sponsors are Reef Switchboard Manufacturers, Super Groups and Tiger Brands.
“Their donations help us to assist those in need,” he said.
The Record’s Food Drive was launched about three weeks ago. According to the Editor, Roelien Vorster the Record receives many requests from the community to assist needy families. “I decided to try and collect as many non-perishable foodstuffs as possible to assist those in desperate need. Times are tough and everybody struggles, some more than other. With the declining economy it is becoming more difficult for some people to stay afloat.”
She said she would like the Food Drive to continue the rest of the year. “All I ask the community is to buy one extra tin of food, one extra bag of sugar, mealie meal, rice or pasta, or anything else you can afford, and bring it to the Record’s offices on the corner of Generaal Pienaar Avenue and Ham Street, Witpoortjie.
The West Rand Round Table branches also joined hands with the Record recently. “So many people want to help others and most often they don’t know how and think it will cost a lot of money. Although your contribution might look small, it will make a huge difference in the lives of others. We urge the community to assist with this project,” Roelien said.
