HONEYDEW – Easter weekend operation sees 240 suspects behind bars.

A joint crime prevention operation involving the Johannesburg West Cluster and Metro police officers, targeting lawbreakers over the Easter weekend, yielded positive results as 240 people were arrested for various crimes.

Dubbed as operation Paseka and Fiela, Honeydew Police Station spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan said the operation focused on different crime codes over the long weekend.

“Joburg Metro police made sure that drunken drivers and those who drove recklessly were brought to book, and all roads were safe. [A total of] 240 suspects were also arrested for crimes such as business robbery, theft, possession of dagga or drugs, dealing in liquor, fraud, bribery, a suspected stolen motor vehicle and housebreaking,” said Muthan.

The successes come shortly after Honeydew police officers were warned by top cluster cops to refrain from corruption ahead of the Easter weekend.

Muthan also disclosed that the station recorded less criminal activities compared to last year’s Easter weekend. “Compared to last year around the same time, [crime] is looking very low in the Honeydew policing area, and it’s due to the large crime prevention operation that we carried out,” concluded Muthan.
