Night time fun in the garden

Easter Bunny visits Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.

Not even the cold could dampen the excitement of the Easter egg hunters participating in the recent night hunt at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.

The event was organised by Suntoy, the inventors and manufacturers of the Consol Solar Jar, and according to Harold Schulz, “This was our first event in South Africa, and, although we experienced some hiccups and snags in our organisation, we believe it was quite successful. We would like to do more of these events on a regular basis – not only to create awareness of our product, but also to involve the community in fun activities.”

AJ van der Berg participated in the jar-decorating competition.

The event consisted of an Easter egg hunt using the solar jars, a jar-decorating competition, some lucky draws as well as a visit by the Easter Bunny. “We received an overwhelming response from the community – a lot more than what we expected! This was a fun community event,” said Sheryl Thiel, the Suntoy Public Relations Officer. The Easter eggs used for the hunt, the prizes for the jar-decorating competition as well as the lucky draws were sponsored by Nestlé and private sponsors. “We bought the two bunnies for the first prizes ourselves,” she said.

The winners of the jar-decorating competition and the lucky draw each received a giant Geldhof chocolate bunny. Kaylee van der Merwe who won first prize in the jar-decorating competition was overjoyed with her prize and could not stop hugging and kissing her bunny. “This is so awesome! I do not have words to describe this feeling. I am so happy because I have never won anything before!” she said excitedly. Marco Bothma was the winner of the lucky draw and could not wait to hold his prize. “I am very happy! I will think about sharing it with the rest of my family,” he said with a big smile.

Romy Nathan was one of the bunny helpers at the hunt.
