Ten injured in Newlands accident

No fatalities reported

Ten people were injured when a minibus taxi rolled yesterday afternoon (11 April) at the Ontdekkers Road and 10th Street intersection in Newlands.

The accident happened at 4.14pm and ER24 paramedics responded to the emergency call. Upon arrival, paramedics found the vehicle parked on the side of the road with the occupants seated on the sidewalk.

The patients were assessed and 10 had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Fortunately, there were no serious or fatal injuries. “The injured were treated by the paramedics and thereafter transported to a nearby Provincial Hospital for further treatment,” said Russel Meiring, the ER24 spokesperson.

It is believed that the driver of the minibus taxi lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll. Local authorities will be conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of this incident.
