Metrobus will be operating normally

Metrobus users not affected by strike action.

The approximately 90 000 commuters using the Johannesburg Metrobus service will not be affected by the strike action today (12 April).

Metrobus acting manager, Sabata Makoele, said the Metrobus drivers will not take part in the nationwide strike, therefore the service will operate as usual.

“The Joburg Metrobus is not part of the South African Road Passengers Bargaining Council (SARPBAC) negotiations. It forms part of the South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC). We are expecting our bus services to operate as normal today,” he said.

This announcement follows a notice of strike action issued by five trade unions – including The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) and The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa). The strike follows the deadlock in the wage negotiations with SARPBAC.
