Police refuse to arrest trespasser
Police's excuses were inconsistent, says homeowner.
A homeowner, Thulani Nkosi, who resides in Amelia Street said he is gobsmacked by the actions of two Roodepoort Police members who refused to arrest a trespasser.
Last Wednesday night (5 April) at about 11pm Nkosi’s neighbour from across the street allegedly saw a man scaling Nkosi’s perimeter wall and immediately alerted the police. According to Nkosi the police arrived relatively quickly, just in time to apprehend the suspect as he was leaving Nkosi’s premises.

The neighbour gave the two police officers his account of what he had seen and the trespasser even admitted to having scaled the wall. His excuse was that he was with a prostitute and feared that she or an accomplice might rob him. He said he threw his cellphone into Nkosi’s yard and wanted to retrieve it. But, according to Nkosi, the police refused to arrest the alleged trespasser and made inconsistent excuses, saying they do not open dockets for trespassing. “My neighbour and I were in disbelief,” said Nkosi. “I confronted the man and asked him why he did not just come and knock, and I would have gladly let him retrieve his phone,” said a puzzled Nkosi.
The police allowed the man to leave.
A member of the Police has confirmed that trespassers still have to be arrested.
