Joburg City Theatres launches integrated brand

Not many are aware of the brand.

Joburg City Theatres (JCT) launched their integrated brand on Thursday 30 March.

Joburg Theatre (SOC) Ltd, trading as Joburg City Theatres (JCT), is a municipal entity owned by the City of Joburg (CoJ) and operates the Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein), Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre, with the aim to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in the provision of world class theatre entertainment to the citizens of Johannesburg.

“We realised that many people still don’t know that Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre are part of one company, hence the idea for arranging today’s launch,” said Khushu Koloti, Marketing Executive at JCT.

In true theatre style, the full day included an all-round tour of the three versatile theatres, the youth development platforms, the fine dining offered through the in-house Stages restaurants and the high-profile corporate venue offerings.

JCT now has a fully equipped mobile theatre truck that is available for corporate and public rental. Productions can be adapted to delight audiences from the back of a 20m truck, designed by Mercedes-Benz and built by Serco. The mobile theatre truck boasts a comprehensive 10m wide and 5m deep stage, dressing rooms, as well as professional lighting and a sound system.

“True to our brand promise, where everyone plays a part, theatre productions can now go into communities; making magic of theatre productions more accessible to people who cannot always visit the shows due to lack of funds and accessibility,” said Makhaola Ndebele, Artistic Manager at JCT.

The Board, selected by the MMC of Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba and the Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba, supported by the Chief Executive Officer and the executive team, assist in providing strategic direction, leadership and oversight, so as to enhance shareholder value and ensure JCT’s long-term sustainability, development and growth.

“We now have a full team of experienced professionals that can contribute to bringing new content, at the same time being mindful of the transformation agenda, and making sure South Africa is able to tell and stage its own stories, and present them at international platforms,” said Claire Pacariz, executive producer for JCT.
