The paramedics along with Randburg Fire Department personnel worked tirelessly to extricate the patient while the medics stabilised him. Before they removed the critically injured man from the wreckage he was immobilised on a trauma board to prevent further spinal injury. The Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic placed the man on a ventilator before transporting him to a specialised hospital for the care he required.
