Swimmer wins first gold medal

Zodea Jacobie won her very first gold medal last weekend when she participated in the SA Regional Age Group Swimming Championships. Zodea who learned competitive swimming with the Swims for Superfins Swimming Club in Coronationvile at five years old is a Princess Primary School pupil.

The competition was held at the Delville Swimming Pool in Germiston from 31 March to 2 April. With a time of 3:30:16, Zodea claimed victory in the 200m breaststroke event and a bronze medal in the relay event. “I felt very happy at finishing first and winning my very first gold medal. I wanted to win and tried my best to achieve my goal,” said Zodea.

The 11-year-old from Davidsonville made finals for six heats which included the 50m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

She is part of the Swim South Africa programme which is supported by the Gauteng province. She dreams of becoming an Olympic swimmer and her role model is Chad le Clos.
