Legends help the needy

Springbok rugby legends Frik du Preez and Wynand Claassen were the main draws when Living Waters of Hope hosted a golf day at Ruimsig Country Club. Frik was a Springbok lock from 1961 to 1971 and was named rugby player of the century. Wynand was Springbok captain from 1981 to 1984.

The non-profit organisation partnered with Township Realtors and Property Developers to raise funds, which were donated to charities around the West Rand such as the Abraham Kriel Orphanage, Princess feeding scheme, Mug and Tree soup kitchen and Luipaardsvlei Old Age Home.

Later in the evening there was an opportunity to auction off some regalia and framed pictures of the two legendary Springboks as well as artwork from painter Anton Gericke.

Dr Alf Levin who is involved with the non-profit organisation is passionate about the work they do and is always looking for opportunities to extend a helping hand.

“We want to work with children in the Princess informal settlement and we have plans in place to make them productive. We want to have a venue and a dedicated educator who will be tutoring the children after school. We also supply food to the various old age homes in the area and try to supply warm blankets and clothing, especially with winter on its way.”
