National Epilepsy Awareness Day (Purple Day)

Learn more about epilepsy on #NationalEpilepsyAwarenessDay

26 March is annual National Epilepsy Awareness Day.

This day is also known as ‘Purple Day’ as people are encouraged to wear the colour purple to increase awareness of epilepsy. According to the World Health Organisation (Who), nearly 50 million people live with epilepsy globally.

In many cases there is no known cause for this condition, which is not contagious. Some people who suffer from epilepsy have had an injury, disease, infection or stroke, which might be the cause. It is a treatable condition, but in some parts of the world treatment is very difficult to get.

Epilepsy is a confusing condition, especially for children, which is why awareness and knowledge are so important.

To celebrate today, visit your local library or do an online search and learn more about epilepsy.
