New clinic opened in Braamfischerville

Residents grateful for new clinic

The Gauteng Department of Health officially opened the doors of the new Braamfischerville Clinic on 16 March.

The new clinic was a welcome sight for the residents, as it alleviates the stress and frustrations of having to travel very long distances to access free primary health care services. Thirty-three-year-old Zanele Simelane was the first patient to be attended to at the new clinic, and she could not stop smiling. “I am very grateful that the Department of Health has brought this clinic to our area. Elderly people will no longer have to travel six or eight kilometres in order to access free health services,” she said.

At least 71 patients were seen and treated between 8am and 4pm on the opening day.

The new clinic, with its eight consulting rooms, is a great improvement. “Before this clinic was opened, people had to travel about six kilometres to the Sol Plaatjie Clinic or eight kilometres to the Itireleng Community Health Centre, regardless of how sick they were, to receive medical treatment. At times, some of them would walk to the clinic, because they did not have money for transport,” said the councillor for Ward 49, Mandla Mlangeni.

The clinic boasts a variety of services, including HIV/ Aids and Tuberculosis (TB) care, chronic care services, acute curative services, family planning, ante- and post-natal care, ward-based outreach referrals, mental health services, eye care, oral health services, immunisations, pharmaceutical services, nutrition programmes, emergency health services, environmental health services (as per demand), maternity services, women’s and children’s health services, and health promotion services.
