Have a Heart care centre desperate for help

Community asked to open their hearts

The founder of the Have a Heart centre in Roodepoort is pleading with the community to find it in their hearts to offer assistance.

Marius Oelofse has been battling to keep the centre afloat amidst all the recent setbacks, with the latest one being of a personal nature. According to his sister, Estelle, he has been admitted to hospital recently for observation because of a heart problem. “He does not look well,” she said.

The centre is still in desperate need of food donations, someone who can help with dry-walling, a double industrial washbasin for the kitchen, a plug-in stove, replacing broken windows as well as fixing the leaking roof, building a wall at the fire escape as well as a vehicle to transport the residents to and from hospital to fetch their chronic medication.

Other items that are on the centre’s wish list, includes a gas stove, single beds, wardrobes, a vacuum cleaner, chest freezer, paint and any power tools. “If the community can donate their unwanted items that can be sold at a jumble sale, it would be much appreciate. The money generate from these sales will be used to pay for rent and buy food for the residents,” Marius said.

If there is someone who can assist with any of the above, please contact Marius on 082 952 7151.
