MUST READ: Man shot dead in Feather Square parking lot

FEATHERBROOKE – A local businessman was found dead outside the Kwiksquare in Feathersquare on 14 March.

A well-known local businessman has been shot dead outside the Feather Square KwikSpar.

Operations manager for BCI Security, Gerhard Visagie, said the incident, which happened at about 7.25pm on 14 March, occurred after the victim had parked outside the Spar.

According to Visagie, CCTV footage shows a silver, grey BMW parked a few bays from the victim’s car. Once the victim had returned to his car from shopping, he found the BMW had moved to behind his vehicle.

Two men then got out of the BMW and began to fight with the victim.

The footage then reportedly shows the driver of the BMW get out of the vehicle and shoot the victim many times in the upper body.

The assailants broke the back window of the victims car and a black bag was removed before they drove away.

Visagie said the information BCI has is that the bag was full of documents, as money the victim was transporting home was still found in the car.

BCI Security was able to respond a few minutes after the incident and handed over the crime scene once the police arrived.

Visagie said it looked as if the criminals had followed the victim to the Spar.

Honeydew police were unable to confirm details of the incident before time of publication. Feather Square Kwikspar did not wish to comment but referred the Roodepoort Northsider to Spar Head Office, which was unable to comment before the time of publication.

Netcare 911’s media liason officer, Chris Botha confirmed the incident.

“The Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic arrived at the scene and found first aiders pulling the man out of the vehicle. The patient was examined and found that he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically he was declared dead at the scene due to the extensive injuries that he sustained,” said Botha.

The BCI team want to convey our their condolences to the victim’s family and friends.

They would also like to thank all the security companies, police, ER24 and the management of the Spar for all the assistance and the information made available in the ongoing investigation.
