West Rand is a caring community

Goodwill in Roodepoort

The Amitofo Care Centre and Willie van de Schyf from Monument Toyota in Constantia Kloof have together proved the West Rand to be a caring community. These organisations and individuals worked together to donate several wheelchairs to the Wolmaransstad Old Age Home. The home is in a small community in the North West Province and takes care of 90 senior citizens.

“We have been working with Willie in Roodepoort for a number of years. In the 25 years since the organisation began in Africa, we have had numerous containers of wheelchairs come into the country. We focus on love and education, and to date, our organisation has adopted more than 3 000 children across the continent,” said Amitofo’s Chief Executive Officer, Sherry Chen.

The old age home’s Cor van Vuuren was beyond elated at the donation. The home’s residents struggle to make ends meet with just their pension. “It’s hard, because we need help. The old people are always worried that the home will close and that they may not have a roof over their heads, or even food to eat. Our community is not the biggest and we try to assist where we can,” he said.
