Restoration of Institution of Grace in Florida commences

Community members rally together to refurbish donated house

It was a beehive of activity in and around the Institution of Grace (IOG) Restoration Centre’s house in Florida recently, as paintbrushes were slapping paint on walls.

The centre was founded in 2015 by Curt van Heerden in an attempt to restore all those who have been affected by the after-effects of various addictions. They were the grateful recipients of a house that was donated to them by GM Boilers, but unfortunately the house was in a derelict condition and needed a lot of repairs and maintenance.

Jubilee Community Services (JCS) heard about the centre’s need, and decided to assist them. “We believe that the reach of such an inspirational message certainly requires the dedication of humans to sharing and consuming the content that raises awareness,” said Debbie Watson from JCS.

JCS often partners with organisations who are in need of assistance, and this time was no different. It, in conjunction with ARC Skills, community members and the IOG centre residents, got together on the morning of Friday, 3 March and started beautifying the donated house.

“The residents were very excited, and could not wait to start painting, and in no time at all, the house started taking shape,” said Debbie. However, because of the state the house is in, much more support is required. “If there is anyone willing to donate or sponsor their services, such as electrical repairs, electrical appliances, roofing, ceilings, furniture or even food, it will be welcomed. Although the residents have repaired and restored the house to the best of their abilities, they are dependent on sponsors and donations,” she added.

IOG residents and management are very grateful for the help they already received and want to thank everyone responsible for the day’s event. “We (JCS and IOG) graciously extend our appreciation to each of them in recognition of their generous contributions,” said Debbie.

Anyone who is willing to sponsor their services or donate items towards this project can contact Keegan Mackenzie on 062 544 1907 or JCS on 011 674 4219/ 071 400 6956.
