JMPD has not launched a traffic hotline – yet

No genuine information on traffic hotline published to date

An image has been circulated on social media stating that the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has launched a traffic hotline.

The image had the official JMPD logo on it, and stated that all traffic light outages, by-law infringements, illegal dumping and any other traffic-related matter could be reported by phoning the number on the image.

But, according to the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) councillor Michael Sun, this information is incorrect. “The infographic that has been circulated is unfortunately incorrect and unauthorised. We have not published any information on the traffic hotline as yet,” said Michael.

He added that the JMPD will indeed be launching a traffic hotline. “This hotline will be focusing on traffic congestion and road problems. Once all systems are functioning at 100 per cent, a formal launch will be communicated,” he said.
