Do you know how to apply for a boom gate?

FAIRLAND – Joburg Roads Agency explains the procedure involved in applying for a boom gate.

 

Joburg Roads Agency Region C operations manager, Lawrence Maseko addressed the residents of Ward 89 during their public meeting about security access restrictions and traffic calming policies.

Maseko explained that his office receives between 10 and 12 applications for security access restrictions on a daily basis, namely boom-gate applications.

He advised residents to adhere to the correct process when applying for a boom gate, and reminded residents that anyone can apply and the approval for a boom gate has to be renewed every two years.

Security access restriction procedure:

From there, the applicant will receive a receipt, acknowledging the application. An application fee of about R12 194 must be paid within 14 days.

A report will then be compiled where entities, such as the municipality and the Metro police will comment on the installation of a boom gate.

Within 90 days, a meeting must be called by the police for them to provide statistics for the area.

Subsequently, the applicant will be advised within 45 days whether the application was successful or not.

The applicant then has 30 days to submit any further representation. Advertising for public comment needs to be made and 30 days must be given to the public to comment.

The final determination will then be published in the Provincial Gazette.
