Baby Moses children the big winners

Baby Moses Baby and Child Sanctuary receives much needed donation

The Baby Moses Baby and Child Sanctuary received a much-needed cash donation from a local modelling agency recently.

“We were so excited to receive this much-needed cash donation as charities really battle. The donation was very welcome, and definitely more than we expected. With the large sum we received, we will be able to plug quite a few holes at the sanctuary,” said Lanie de Klerk, the founder of the sanctuary.

In December last year, HMC Models ran a photography competition in an attempt to raise money for the sanctuary. Sasha Taylor, the modelling director of the agency said that, in addition to the competition, the models and their parents also donated money. “Through these combined efforts, we were able to hand over the huge amount of R18 270 to the sanctuary,” Sasha said.

The handover was done at the sanctuary and at the same time, the winners of the competition were announced. The winners in the various categories were: Nicola Sfeir (girls 0–3 years old), Cosmo Romanelli (boys 0–3 years old), Danika Smith (girls 4–6 years old), Lana Langeveldt (girls 7–9 years old), Chanté Oosthuizen (girls 10–13 years old), John James Potgieter (boys 10–13 years old), Savannah Taylor (girls 14–16 years old), JP Potgieter (boys 14–16 years old), Shikirah Roth (girls 17–19 years old), Jon-Roux Harris (boys 17–19 years old) and Marisa Romanelli (Mrs).

Lanie wanted to thank everyone involved with this initiative. “We are so thankful for this donation, because without the community’s involvement we would have to close our doors. What makes this initiative more unique, is that it came from a 16-year old girl, who mobilised her friends and family. This just shows that you are never too small or too young to make a difference,” she said.

Lanie said that the money they received will mainly be used for electricity, food, water and transport. “But we will also use it to ensure that our children have the opportunity to participate in school activities they normally cannot, like fun days at school, athletic competitions and so much more,” she said.

She wanted to urge people to not become blinded to poverty and to keep on supporting charity organisations. “Not just Baby Moses, but any other organisation where people, and especially children, need help. In the end, it is not about the organisation, but the children,” she said.

“We always welcome any assistance from the public, and should you feel you can help, please feel free to contact me on 072 114 7863,” she concluded.
