Teamwork leads to arrests of jet-ski thieves

K9 unit's persistence leads to more arrests.

A number of suspects were arrested after allegedly they had stolen a jet-ski in Florida Hills yesterday morning (21 February).

At about 11.15am, a Florida Hills resident alerted Florida Sector 1 CPF members and Apcan Security about a theft in progress.

Security reaction officers and patrollers from local neighbourhood watches rushed to the scene. A resident managed to take photos of the fleeing suspects and their vehicle.

A Gauteng-wide be-on-the-lookout alert was issued for the suspects’ red VW Caddy bakkie and the stolen red jet-ski. The vehicle was spotted in the Helderkruin area during the afternoon and security officers started combing the area. Florida Sector 1 CPF then received reports that officers from the police’s K-9 unit had apprehended the suspects in Roodepoort. They were brought to Florida Police Station for further questioning.

However, the two K9 officers persisted with their investigation and, in the early evening, the stolen jet-ski was recovered in Maraisburg and the other suspects were arrested.
