Pikitup update: Is relocation possible?

ALLENS NEK – Pikitup explains relocating its garden refuse site will be a long and costly process.

ALLENS NEK – In response to residents’ complaints about the Allens Nek Pikitup garden refuse site, Pikitup claims it would be a long process to try and move the site.

Residents wanted the site moved from the area after having to deal with issues such as smells, vagrants and what looked like illegal dumping, for years, which they claim devalues their properties.

Pikitup spokesperson, Muzi Mkhwanazi explained, “Firstly, new land will have to be identified and the cost of moving the site will have to be covered by the people making the request for relocation. We’ve had cases like this where a developer wanted us to move a site and the developer needed to carry the cost of relocation.

“Then, an environmental impact assessment will have to be done on the new site and that is a lengthy process,” Mkhwanazi continued.

A member of the mayoral committee, Anthony Still has been contacted for more information on the site relocation.
