The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg said that he can offer no comfort to those who are uncomfortable with his efforts to root out corruption.
Mashaba has confirmed that he has launched an independent forensic investigation into City Power tenders after receiving serious allegations and information.
The investigation, which will be completed in the next six weeks, will be conducted by one of the top five auditing firms in South Africa. The findings and recommendations of the investigation will be made available to the public after finalisation. “I have chosen Sizwe Ntsabula Gobodo Incorporated to conduct this investigation. It is essential that this investigation is concluded by an independent and professional auditing firm to ensure the report is free of any political interference or bias,” said Mashaba.
It is a well known fact that Mashaba, just after being elected as the new Mayor, declared corruption as public enemy number one. “The tenders being investigated amount to billions of rand. That is an enormous amount of money and it’s public money. For me to sit with this information and not act immediately would be a dereliction of my duty to the residents of the city,” he said.
According to a post on City Power’s Twitter account, the board welcomes the Mayor’s initiative regarding this matter. “We pledge our full and unwavering support during this process,” the post stated.

Mashaba concluded by saying, “The days of politicians shamelessly looting public money are over. I can assure you that those who are found guilty of corruption will find themselves behind bars and the stolen money will be recovered.”
