Have a Heart needs your help

Please help keep the centre's doors open

The Have A Heart care centre in Roodepoort has experienced a series of setbacks recently that have left them reeling, with the latest one threatening to close their doors for good.

Marius Oelofse, the founder of the centre is pleading with the community to assist them to help them keep their doors open.”I was diagnosed with cancer last year, which meant I had to undergo chemotherapy. In my absence, Albert de Villiers took over the care of the centre’s residents. This resulted in a lot of problems for us, as it was believed that he took some of the food as well as money intended for the residents for himself. He was arrested recently, but not before he did a lot of damage to the centre’s reputation,” Marius said.

According to Marius, Albert contacted the Department of Health as well as the Fire Brigade and told them to visit the centre and see for themselves how dirty it is. “After the visits to the centre by these Departments, we now need quite a few things to keep operating,” said Marius.

He is pleading with the community to find it in their hearts to help them with donations of any of the following items:

– A sink for the kitchen

– Plug in stove (not cable)

– Steel shelves

– Double industrial sink for the dishes

– 40 litres of white enamel paint for the kitchen

– Fire extinguishers

– A four by two metre wall for the fire escape

– Any old doors

– Drywalling (wood is not acceptable)

– Any fibreglass windows

– Someone who can help with fixing all the leaks in the building which has a corrugated steel roof.

Anyone willing to assist with any of the above is asked to please contact Marius on 082 9527 151.
