Metro officer shot in face

Suspects still at large.

A Metro Police officer was seriously injured after a suspect shot him during the night of 22 January.

According to Metro Police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar, two officers on patrol spotted a bakkie with suspected stolen goods on the back while driving on the R41 (Randfontein Road). Close to the intersection with Corlett Avenue they managed to pull the bakkie over but when one of the officers approached the bakkie one suspect opened fire and shot him through his jaw. The officer’s colleague returned fire but the suspects managed to escape.

At the time of publication of this article, no arrests had been made.
