Shots fired in peak traffic

Rumour has it that tensions are brewing.

Rumour has it that tensions are brewing between taxi drivers again.

This comes after a taxi driver fired two warning shots at another taxi on Albertina Sisulu Road this morning. The incident took place close to the dog training school and Jumbo butchery. A woman was driving to a friend at about 7.50am when she landed up between two taxis.

Suddenly one of the taxi driver fired two shots across her vehicle’s roof in the direction of the taxi on the other side of her vehicle. Afterwards she stopped at a group of taxis of which she knows the drivers. She told them about the incident. The drivers then told her that there are taxi drivers on the route who are “not abiding by the rules and they are going to be taught a lesson”.

The Record asked the Dobsonville Roodepoort Leratong Johannesburg Taxi Association (Dorljota) spokesperson Zeblon Simelane if he has any knowledge of tension among the taxi drivers. Simelane said he has not heard anything but will investigate.
