Provincial government condems fraudulent Makhura emails

Fraudulent emails doing the rounds

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has been a victim of identity theft on social media. This comes after the Gauteng Provincial Government released a statement indicating how concerned the office is regarding fraudulent emails and social media activities taking place in the Premier’s name.

The premier’s spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane said the government wishes to reiterate that Premier Makhura does not have any social media accounts and does not send emails to people soliciting any donations or investment.

“All information pertaining to the Premier’s official activities is updated on the Gauteng Provincial Government’s official media platforms. Numerous attempts have been made to solicit money from unsuspecting members of the public, using fake accounts and emails,” she said.

The public is once again urged to ignore postings that are alleged to be from Premier Makhura’s accounts.

Government is cautioning the public against bogus emails and communication on social media platforms.

The matter has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
