Christaan de Wet Road accident update: EMS explains fire truck dilemma

People on scene did not understand how the process works, said an EMS spokesperson

The community was outraged this morning, when it took a fire truck an hour to arrive, without water, at the accident scene in which a woman perished in a burning vehicle.

Robert Mulaudzi, spokesperson for Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) clarified what happened. “The people on the scene do not know how it works. The first truck that arrived was a vehicle that by nature does not carry any water. It only contains emergency equipment such as the Jaws-of-Life. The second truck we sent was the one containing water. Unfortunately the second truck was busy on another scene when the accident happened and that is why it arrived later,” explained Mulaudzi.

He added that there are only three fire trucks serving the West Rand.
