Brave Grade 1s at Welties

WELTEVREDEN PARK – No cry babies at Weltevreden Park Primary School during the first day of school.

Weltevreden Park Primary School principal, James van Dyk has vowed to take the school to greater heights and continue to maintain its top position in the area.
He said this during the first day of school on 11 January when he welcomed new staff and the little Grade 1s.
The new staff are Lizelle Swanepoel, Chane de Jager, Erika Delport, Amy Rattray and Kayley Stewart.
“I am very excited for the school,” said Van Dyk.

“We are one of the top schools and we want to keep it that way. With the brilliant team of teachers, new staff and a supportive School Governing Body, we will be able to take the school from strength to strength.”
It had barely been a full day at school, but two sets of Grade 1 twins already had their minds made up about their career choices. Speaking to Roodepoort Northsider, Zoe and Abbie Tshiaba-Kayembe said when they grow up they want to become doctors because they were passionate about helping people.

With crime escalating in the country, the second set, a bubbly Thato and Lerato Malataliana said their dream jobs would be to become police officers and chase criminals.
The third set of twins, Kene and Cheta Empekpo were, however, undecided.

All putting on happy faces, the Grade 1s enjoyed touring their school under the guidance of their form teachers.
The school was also proud to announce its newly appointed deputy principal, Herman Bresler, who is the school’s former head of department guidance teacher. Bresler, who comes from a family of teachers, said he has been with the school for 28 years and enjoyed the guidance position because of his love for children. “I was comfortable with my guidance position because of the compassion and empathy I have for kids.”
