New Kings and Queens on the West Rand

POORTVIEW – It was the first day of school for the children at The King's School West Rand.

The King’s School West Rand welcomed the new Grade 1s and Grade RRs to their school with the best of wishes for the year ahead.

The school day started with an assembly and the parents left their children in the care of their teachers. Principal Ken Langley said, “We are looking forward with anticipation to exciting things planned for 2017. What a privilege it is to shape this new generation of young people, filling them with the hope of a new beginning for our nation.

“The teaching curriculum will happen, but what I’m most excited about is the opportunity of forming character and discernment in our youth. May God help us in this.”

The excitement did not only surround the younger ones but the Grade 8s, who had already started their orientation week, came dressed as bees on 11 January.

Head girl, Nichelle Camacho explained that the prefects had decided to use the orientation to focus on each newcomer’s identity while still showing that they are working towards a common goal. Therefore, they thought bees were an appropriate model for the week.

Ice-breakers, games, dances and practice for a play will keep the Grade 8s busy until Monday.
