Pole carrying high voltage cables on the brink of falling down

HONEYDEW – City Power is yet to fix a leaning pole which carries high voltage cables on Boundary Road.

A pole supporting high voltage cables on Boundary Road in Honeydew is on the brink of falling down and is posing a danger to residents and motorists.

This problem was reported to City Power about a month ago and nothing has been done to date.

The pole is leaning over precariously and could be of danger to workers of Johannesburg Roads Agency contractor who are repairing the road.

According to a local resident, Pierre Sorensen, employees of the contractor have been working near and underneath the pole for more than two months. He was concerned that the pole and cables would give way and fall on a car or pedestrian.

Sorensen’s efforts to contact authorities have yet to yield results.

Spokesperson for the agency, Bertha Peters-Scheepers confirmed that they were aware of this danger and had reported it to the power utility. “The contractor is aware and monitors the situation on a daily basis, ensuring the safety of workers,” Peters-Scheepers said.

City power is yet to respond as it was still investigating the problem.
