Five things you can do after passing matric

Not sure what to do after matric? Here are some suggestions

The matric results have just been released and if you are among the 76,2 per cent of those that passed, you might be wondering what happens now.

When you are young and ambitious, there are many things you can do after matric. Going straight to university after matriculating is not the only option.

Some other options to consider include:

– You do not have to go to university, you can go to a college instead. You can still have a pretty awesome tertiary education experience at college, including the parties, late-night studying and the noodles struggle.

– Take a well-deserved gap year. You have been a learner for 12 years, and a break is well-deserved. Spend your gap year by being an au pair, babysitting, working part-time or just relaxing. If you have some money saved up, use it to travel a bit. Take it easy, visit friends and family overseas (or in another province) or find a new hobby, but remember, whatever you do, be sure to plan the year after your gap year in advance.

– Did you know that a matric certificate can get you a job? Some people prefer going to work straight after completing their last year of school, especially when they are already confident in their skills and line of work, for example in the creative industry (photography), sport, and so on.

– You could kill two birds with one stone by studying online and working at the same time. This way you can increase you skillset and earn a promotion at work.

– You can become self-employed by starting you own business right after matric. Although this can be a scary thing to do, if you are business minded, you will know that the sooner you start, the better. One thing you can do to start raising capital almost right away is tutoring other learners. Save up the money received from that to start your business.
