We passed!

Excited learners received their matric results today

On the morning of 5 January there were squeals of delight – and some sighs of relief – as last year’s matric learners across Gauteng received their results.

According to Morné Hanekom, Hoërskool Florida spokesperson, they are very proud of their matrics who achieved a pass rate of 99 per cent. “We have 20 learners who achieved distinctions ranging from four to nine,” a happy Morné said.

The overall feeling among those who received their results was happiness and satisfaction and they were very excited to start their new journey. Even though he recorded five distinctions, Monré van Vuuren felt he could have done better. He said he is going to submit three of his papers for a remark, as he missed a distinction in all three by only two per cent. “I am going to Stellenbosch University to study towards a BSc degree and want to become a cosmetic surgeon,” he said.

Florida Park High School achieved a pass rate of 97,7 per cent, and Pam Matlhare from the school said they are very happy with these results. “The results are looking very good, and, out of the 270 learners who wrote exams, 156 received a Bachelor pass,” she said. Most of the learners were happy with their results, and said it was what they expected.

Johan van Jaarsveldt, Hoërskool Roodepoort principal was very pleased with their results. “We achieved a 100 per cent pass mark for the first time in about four years – 54 per cent of them Bachelors, 45 per cent Diplomas and only one subject fail. We had one learner who achieved four distinctions,” he said proudly. He said he believed the learners maintained a very good average in all the subjects and they would be able to do well at university.

The school boasts five learners achieving between four and five distinctions.
