Residents living as one big family

RADIOKOP – Melody Street residents in Radiokop share lunch and gifts weeks before Christmas.

Christmas came early for the children living in Melody Street in Radiokop after a few close-knit neighbours decided to host an outdoor picnic which went along with a 1980s theme on 11 December.

Ingrid Dinsmore, the vice chairperson of the local residents association, said the event was part of welcoming new neighbours on the block and embracing the good relationships, which they shared.

“We also hosted the event to make sure that the new [neighbours] felt welcome in the area,” she said.

Vanessa Boshoff, a new homeowner on the street, said she could not have asked for a better neighbourhood. “Immediately I felt at home when we moved into the area. The neighbours were friendly and welcoming,” Boshoff reflected, adding that she was looking forward to engaging in many more community events in future.

Dinsmore added that each household contributed to the picnic basket and toys for the children.
