Elandsdrift man found in bloodbath

No arrests have been made for the weekend murder in Elandsdrift

Muldersdrift police are piecing together information in the mystery surrounding the brutal death of an Elandsdrift man who was found lying in a pool of blood on 4 December.

Muldersdrift Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Masedi Masedi said the police were working around the clock to investigate the suspicious death. “Police are investigating the cause of death. However, a murder and house robbery case is also being probed at the station,” Masedi confirmed.

Manie Steyn, 53, was said to be home alone on the day of his death. He was found lying in a pool of blood by his son.

The man was discovered with three gunshot wounds in the chest.

According to Masedi, the son had last seen his father a couple of hours prior to the incident. “The deceased was left alone, according to the son. Upon visiting his father hours later, he found that the lounge door was open and saw a trail of blood in the passage which led him to his father’s room where he found him dead.”

He further said that a firearm, laptop and cellphone were stolen.

A separate investigation by Drift Reaction, a security company in the Muldersdrift surroundings, speculated that three men were behind Steyn’s death after verifying footprints at the scene.
