More than R10 million worth of stolen computer equipment found

Crime Intelligence's information leads to arrests.

Four suspects were arrested and a haul of stolen computer equipment worth more than R10 million was recovered in Roodepoort this morning, said Provincial Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kay Makhubela.

Two members of the Roodepoort Crime Prevention Unit received information from Crime Intelligence to be on the lookout for a black VW Amarok that was believed to have been involved in a business robbery in Midrand last night. At around 9am they spotted the vehicle in Roodepoort CBD and a chase ensued.

When the suspects’ vehicle reached Randfontein Road the police had trouble catching them due to the heavy traffic. They called for backup and the vehicle was finally forced off the road. In the vehicle they found some of the stolen computer equipment and the four suspects were arrested and detained at Roodepoort Police Station.

During questioning one of the suspects decided to spill the beans and told the police that the rest of the loot was in a unit at the Amazing Storage facility in Davidsonville. There the police discovered equipment, including laptops en hard drives, worth more than R10 million.

The suspects will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
