BREAKING: Attempted child abduction in Weltevreden Park

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Reports of five men who attempted to abduct a child in Weltevreden Park are circulating in community WhatsApp groups.

Five men allegedly attempted to abduct a child in Weltevreden Park at about 5:30pm. The men who were travelling in a grey Volkswagen Polo fled the scene with their victim’s cell phone.

An eyewitness said four boys were playing at the street when the men approached them.

“The boys were playing outside on Without Avenue when the car pulled up and asked them if they knew Miss Verde,” said Ingrid Friend.

She said when the boys answered that they did not know who Miss Verde was, one of the men tried to grab one of the boys. Apparently the man couldn’t take the boy as another boy called his mother and the men fled the scene.

Friend said the police were called to respond to the incident but by 6.15pm they had not yet arrived at the scene. “Meanwhile there are different security companies here,” she said.
