Teddy bear donation spree for Honeydew trauma centre

HONEYDEW - About 400 fluffy teddy bears were donated to the centre in support of victims who have suffered major traumatic experiences.

Teddy bears came in huge numbers to the trauma centre at Honeydew Police Station on Friday, November 18.
About 400 fluffy teddy bears were donated to the centre in support of victims who have suffered major traumatic experiences.
This campaign to lure people to buy into the programme, was spearheaded by the principal of Little Play School, Anya Oakes, who thanked everyone who brought the initiative to life. “I really want to thank the parents, community, friends and families who managed to reach out to this project,” she said, adding that she was overwhelmed by all the contributions.

CPF chairman Jon Rosenberg accepts teddy bears from the little ones.

The handover of the teddy bears was done at the school in Roodepoort, where children like Hannah Leibrandt, gave away her teddy bear to Honeydew police in conjunction with the area’s Community Policing Forum, chaired by Jon Rosenberg.
Rosenberg, in expressing his gratitude, said he truly appreciates the gesture. He added that the teddy bears will play a vital role in the comforting process for a victim.

“The Honeydew CPF offers free trauma counselling for the victims of crime. We truly appreciate the support of the community because the centre relies on donations to exist,” he said.
“A child easily relates to a cuddly and soft toy after going through a traumatic experience.”
