National Go For A Ride Day

Don't worry too much about where you're going, just enjoy the journey on #NationalGoForARideDay

22 November is National Go For A Ride Day – a day encouraging you hop on your bike, into your car or take your walking boots out of storage and go on a trip.

With the constant intrusion into our lives of cellphones and emails, we can all agree that everyone needs some time to get away from it all from time to time – and what better way to do that than by just going for a ride!

Since early 1904, 22 November has seen quite a number of developments in the transport industry, making National Go For A Ride Day not only a celebration of cars, but any mode of transportation that might strike your fancy.

To illustrate the importance of 22 November in various ares of the transport industry, here are some inventions that took place on this day:

– Mathias Pfatischer, who lived in Philadelphia in 1904, was the first American to patent the pioneer direct electricity and interpole motor.
– In 1927 another American inventor named Carl J Eliason, who lived in Saynor, Wisconsin, acquired the patent for the snowmobile. This invention definitely changed the lives of many Wisconsin inhabitants for the better.

The beauty of National Go For A Ride Day is that there is not only one correct way to celebrate it. At the end of the day, we are celebrating the freedom the development of transportation has brought to us. Depending on where you live in the world, you can spend this day travelling somewhere into the unknown by boat, plane, helicopter, car, motorcycle, roller skates or skateboard. Or, if you want to be more adventurous, you could even use some of the old fashioned modes of transport like riding a horse, sleigh or a carriage.

How you travel does not matter, just as long as you celebrate the free spirit of the day. You might even decide to put on your most comfortable walking shoes and go for a walk in the mountains or the countryside. Pack a lunch, take the family, or your friends, and spend the day walking, talking and enjoying nature – instead of answering endless phone calls and messages.
