New commander at the helm

HONEYDEW – New Crime Prevention Commander Colonel Johan Theunissen plans on combating crime in the Honeydew policing area.

Honeydew Police Station’s newly appointed head of the Crime Prevention Unit, Johan Theunissen has vowed to tackle and combat crime in the policing precinct.
He joined the station last week and is already showing dedication the post. With a sharp focus on areas such as Zandspruit and Cosmo City, areas which top the crime stats at the station, the 52-year-old from Alberton made a commitment to keep a close watch on the high-risk areas.
The former Carletonville Police Station officer, with 34 years of experience in various departments in the police fraternity, said his main priority is to address housebreaking and robbery, carjacking, armed robberies and general violent crimes which are plaguing the areas.
“My focus is to deter or manage crime in the area. My aim is to bring the volume of crime down,” said Theunissen.
In order for his challenging portfolio to bear fruit, he said he needs to be on the ground, familiarise himself with the area and put in the hours. “Honeydew is quite an enormous challenge. And I love challenges, that’s why I applied for the post.
“I’ve been in the office for a week and I’ve been on the ground most of the time, trying to establish myself as a commander and also trying to know the people and the area I serve.”
