How much can you expect to spend on petrol this December?

Motorists can expect a reduction in the petrol price if the rand can hold its own against the dollar.

Many families will be hitting the highways this December on holiday, but how much is it going to cost to get to these picturesque destinations?

Luckily, South African motorist can look forward to a possible fuel price relief . According to the Automobile Association’s (AA) comments on unaudited mid-month fuel price data, motorists can look forward to a 45 cents per litre reduction on petrol and a 38 cents per litre reduction on diesel. Even illumination paraffin will drop by 40 cents.

However, since the US elections, the Rand has weakened against the dollar and the association warned if the local currency does not return to its previous levels, the fuel price could be different at month-end.

“While the expected reduction at the pumps ahead of the 2016 Christmas season is welcome, South Africans would be prudent not to expect sustained drops in the fuel price over the next few months,” the association added.
