Ludik’s Acro Dance Studio experience bright year

Top achievements for studio's dancers

The dancers from Ludik’s Acro Dance Studio (Lads) in Witpoortjie have racked up the awards, ending their year on a high note.

A group of dancers from the studio participated in the Stage and Street Dance Challenge in Rustenburg and were awarded eight gold medals and one silver medal. They were section winners with the highest mark of all the dance disciplines in their age section. The studio was also awarded for the best choreographed solo, which was performed by Juané Grobler.

The studio entered 11 categories in the Raca Eisteddfod and received four diamond (95 per cent and higher), five platinum (between 90 and 94 per cent) and two gold (between 85 and 89 per cent) awards. All the dancers that participated in the Eisteddfod qualified to participate in the South African Championships of Performing Arts next year.

Marine Maartens, Juané Grobler, Cherene van Tonder, Keira Pienaar, Katelyn Rose, Carla de Beer and Luane du Plessis received their Gauteng colours by qualifying to participate at the Nationals for Talent Africa in April next year.

One group from the studio also participated in the Loschali Festival held in Bethal. This group won their section and the judge said, “You were a little piece of heaven today.”

The dance studio finished the national competition with 28 gold, nine silver and 10 bronze medals and received the award for the best choreographed group, achieving a score of 96 per cent.

Zihandri Lange, Katelyn Rose and Carla de Beer all achieved second overall places in their various all-round sections to advance to the next level. Keira Pienaar and Mignon Thunisson won their various all-round sections and also advanced to the next level.

Juané Grobler received the Ultimate Dancer of the Year award – the highest achievement at the competition. She also won the Junior Championships, while Cherene van Tonder achieved an overall third place.

One of the studio’s dancers, Marine Maartens also qualified as an acrobatic teacher – just reward for years of hard work and dedication.

Maryke Ludik and Zelda Lange, coaches at the studio, said, “We are very proud of all our dancers and thankful for all the support they received. We thank God for giving us the talent to teach these dancers.”
